My first 5K

The ortho residents with Dr. Broderick and Dr. Porter
Ben, Matt, JD, and Wes
The ortho residents, wives, and children + 2 attendings

So last Saturday I ran my very first 5K. I am NOT a runner, but trying to be. When I was pregnant with Evie, I was motivated by one of my best friends, Morgan, to run. So when Evie was about 5 weeks old I started the Couch to 5K running plan. I have stuck with it. I am not finished with the plan yet (some weeks I didn't get around to running so it has taken me a little longer) but I only have 3 more weeks left.
So why did we decide to go ahead and run a 5K? One of the ortho physicians that John David works with helped organize this run to honor Sarcoma. So we decided to sign up. John David is not a runner and in fact hates it, but decided to run and support me in my efforts to be a runner. He did way better than me and pushed the kids most of the way.
We finished in 35 minutes and only walked a total of 4 minutes. We pushed the kiddos in the double BOB and were so proud when we finished. It was a hard course, especially pushing a stroller. Jeremiah and Evie did great while we ran. Evie slept and Jeremiah just ate a snack and looked around.
Funny story: When we drove up to the 5K, people were already there warming up. John David and I looked at one another and said, "What the crap are we doing? We have no clue what we are getting ourselves into?"
And on the way there we were eating cereal bars and drinking water. John David looked at me and said "I don't even know if we should be eating this. Or should we even eat? We are idiots."
And after it was over, John David said to me, "At no time during that 5K did I think to myself 'This is fun!'"
I am hoping to sign up for another one in September.

Great job! To funny about eating cereal bars and wondering "what are we doing?" Michael and I had no idea what we were doing at our first run either! haha I will say it doesn't get any easier but it is challenging and I think JD will think it is more fun when it gets a little cooler!! Great job pushing that stroller! That's HARD work!!!!
