Our First Organized Sport

On Monday, I signed Jeremiah up for soccer at our local YMCA. Practices begin in less than a month and games begin in April. He is so excited. What little boy wouldn't be? He gets to run around freely, chasing a ball and kicking it! And according to Jenny, soccer is the best sport ever!!! I have never played soccer, well maybe a few times in college to help out our sorority intramural team. So, daddy has had to lead the way!
We went shopping last night and as soon as we got home, Jeremiah (and John David) wanted to put everything on.
His shorts are Umbros. And I would like to say that this is his FIRST pair of athletic shorts. We almost made it 4 years!

We went to Dick's Sporting Goods and they were running a youth soccer special. For $39 we got cleats, shin guards and a soccer ball!

We also had to buy him a pair of socks. It took a few minutes to get all of this gear on! Which by the way, John David is going to have to show me how to put it all on. I'm telling you-I know nothing about soccer!

The picture below is him pointing out the fact that he doesn't have a soccer shirt! We tried on a few at Dick's, but they were all too big.

We made a call to Gigi and she made this today...
Isn't it amazing?! Jeremiah may be wearing athletic shorts, but he will have an appliquéd and monogrammed t-shirt to practice in! Thank you so much Gigi!

Our little guy posing-he is so proud!

The last 2 pictures were encouraged by the picture wall at Gigi and Sonny's house. They have this room filled with sports pictures of Preston and John David! Mostly baseball, but there are soccer and basketball pictures. John David played a good bit of soccer when he was younger and there are pictures of him wearing Umbros and his foot propped on a soccer ball! Classic!!!!

We are all excited and are anxiously awaiting practice and games to start!

And...sooooo it begins! I hope there will one day be payback for the Saturdays of John David's "indoor soccer"...an awful sport. However, the youth sport of soccer, is super fun to watch. What parent doesn't love to see their child running like the wind...does a heart good. He looks just like his dad, can't wait to see him on the field!
