One of the perks of residency is getting to go to conferences with John David. It allows us to go to places we have never been and in this case, a place where we wouldn't go because we simply can't afford it! One of the requirements for residency graduation is research. And once you have completed your research, you can submit it to different conferences and present it! His research got accepted at the South Carolina Orthopaedic Association which takes place at Kiawah Island.
More specifically, The Sanctuary! As we checked in, I noticed that in 2012 it won the Five Diamond Award. And our room was the Premier Ocean Front Room with a balcony facing the ocean and a balcony facing the garden (pictured above)!
We spent 3 nights at this lovely establishment and for the days we were there, I.did.nothing!
I slept in, had my coffee on the balcony, laid on the beach in a comfy chair where waiters brought drinks to me (well, water) and napped by the pool. I ate lunch each day at the poolside grill with John David, had ice cream cones for afternoon snacks and attended dinners at night with John David. Simply amazing!
And you might be wondering... "where were your children?"
My parents graciously drove up and kept them for us! They took them to the zoo, Monkey Joe's, a birthday party, McDonald's, you name it. My parents were in pure heaven taking care of them and Jeremiah and Evie were also in heaven getting away with anything they wanted!
John David was able to relax as well. He played golf on Friday afternoon, layed on the beach with me on Saturday, and was able to hang out with friends each night! There were other residents from our program there and we all got to relax and eat great food! And let me brag on John David a minute: the conference voted on and decided that his presentation was the best, so he won first place for research presentations. This comes with $250 and (sparing the details) a trip to Washington DC next year. I'm so proud of him. Residency requires so much, if not working 80-100 hours a week isn't enough, including research, journal readings, presentations, taking call, and so much more! I am daily amazed that he can handle it all the way he does and not only survive but do it all really well! It is surely the grace of God!
And for those of you wanting it, the day we arrived, I was 20 weeks and 3 days...
And just 1 day prior to this picture, we found out we were having a BOY! Our plan was to NOT find out, but my smart husband saw "it" anyways! We are thrilled to welcome another little boy and can't wait.
So, to say we had an exciting and great week is an understatement!
