Greetings from Nairobi!!!

4 April, 2009 8am

Well, we have arrived in Nairobi, but it has not been without some testing of the Lord.
I will say that He was so kind to us regarding Jeremiah. Jeremiah absolutely did awesome on the plane. As many of you may know, we were praying that we would be able to receive Bulkhead seating (the first row of economy class that would have room for Jeremiah to play on the floor)w on our transcontinental flight, but we could not reserve these seats, only request them when we arrived at the gate. The first blessing from the Lord came when we checked in at Mobile’s airport. We requested the seats and they were able to reserve the Bulkhead for our flight from Dallas to London (an overnight flight). We were so excited!!!!
We arrived at the terminal in Mobile, anxiously awaiting the departure of our flight at 12 noon. Weather was bad but our flight was not delayed, yet! 12:30, 12:45, 1:30, 2:30, and finally 2:45. What did that mean? It meant that we were going to miss our connection to London and thus lose the Bulkhead. However, the Lord showed us His magnificence once more when we were booked on a later London flight with British Airways (the Mercedes of the Carriers), but no promise of Bulkhead- that would have to be requested when we got to Dallas.
We arrived in Dallas about 1 hour prior to our scheduled departure to London. It took us a little while to make it to our gate, so when we finally arrived at the gate, it was about 30 minutes prior to departure. Immediately I went up to the gate to request Bulkhead. Their reply was “that’s going to be difficult, but we will do everything we can to help you.” A few minutes later, I was being handed our boarding passes for bulkhead. What an AWESOME God!!!!
Jeremiah did great on this 8 ½ hour flight. He played in the floor for a while and then we changed him into his PJ’s. After a little bit of Benadryl to help him calm down, he was out like a light for the next 6 hours. We wish we could show you a picture of him sleeping on the floor in front of our seats.
We arrived in London on time for our scheduled departure to Nairobi. I went to the gate again to request Bulkhead. They replied “I’m sorry but there are none available.” My thought was “well that’s ok, the Lord provided it for the most important flight.” Then a manager came over and the attendant told him about how we were flying with a 10 month old. Suddenly, he said “we can’t put you in Bulkhead but I can move your seats around so you have an empty seat between both of you.” I was thinking “Lord, You are amazing.” Jeremiah did great again for the flight to Nairobi. He got a little restless one time, but nothing that a little crawling up and down the aisles did not solve.
It was around 9:30 pm April 3rd when we arrived in Nairobi. It took us about an hour and a half to get our visas and then off to claim our luggage. At the carousel, we were greeted with 2 of our 9 checked bags, and all of our bags did not make it. Of course a little frustration came across me, then the Spirit was quick to remind me of God’s provision throughout the trip, and a quick peace came over me.
Well, we left the airport and arrived at our Guest house in Nairobi at about midnight. The plan right now is that we are going to wait in Nairobi for our bags, as they are scheduled to come in on the next flight tonight. So instead of traveling to Tenwek today we are going to wait until tomorrow. I truly believe that the Lord knew that it would be best for us to stay in Nairobi an extra day, especially since Jeremiah needed to catch up on sleep. So we are just hanging out in Nairobi with plans to maybe visit a giraffe feeding area and some other phenomenal sites in Nairobi today. More importantly, we are waiting for the Lord to show us His magnificence once more in His provision.

How great to hear more details. The computer calls are great--but getting this detail is wonderful for a mom that wants to know everything. Did the bag with Jeremiah's food make it? Did the ortho med supplies make it? I hope that the reason you could not skype video chat is the bags arrived and you are on the way to tenwek. We love you. MOM (Jeremiah's Gigi)

UPdate
I just did a very short video chat with Danielle--they could not blog or get anything out due to internet service down. She was in the administrative building and could not talk long. Please let friends and family know that they are all okay and prayers are being answered and they should be blogging soon. Gigi
