Back to Chicago, we flew out on a Thursday and came home Sunday. Unfortunately, John David's conference had him busy all day Friday and Saturday. That left a lot of down time for me. I basically spent those 2 days sleeping in, working out, watching the Today Show and doing some shopping.
On Friday and Saturday nights, we ventured out into Chicago and enjoyed our time together-with NO kids. A big thank you to my parents who came up and watched the kids for us! They had their hands full from taking Jeremiah to school, putting up with a lot of fussiness from Evie and taking them to an apple orchard. We really appreciate my parents taking off work and coming up to take care of our kiddos!
Friday night we walked around Michigan Avenue and ate at a great deep dish pizza place called Giordano's.

We enjoyed our time together and loved looking at the "big city!"
Below is a picture of the Trump Building. This thing is massive. It is the 2nd tallest building in the United States. And he wanted it to be taller, but his plan for the building was submitted right after the 9-11 attacks and so revisions had to be made!

Saturday afternoon/night was my favorite time of the weekend. John David got done with his conference a little early and so I had made some plans for us. The #1 thing I wanted to do in Chicago was take a boat tour down the Chicago River (anyone seen The Break Up?). We took a tour at 5:00 and the weather was awesome. Our tour guide was really funny and entertaining. He definitely shared a lot of interesting facts that I wish I could remember. But at least I have pictures to remember the tour!
This building was like the first shopping mall! (I think) But it is so big that you could fit 3 major league baseball fields on the roof!

How would you like to live in one of these condos that face Lake Michigan?

Did you know that Chicago wasn't originally called "The Windy City" because of wind? Well, it wasn't. It became known as "The Windy City" because the city politicians "blew a lot of wind!" It just happened that Chicago is also naturally windy!

This view of the city is from Lake Michigan towards the end of our boat tour!

After our 75 minute tour, we ate dinner at Harry Caray's at the Navy Pier. The Navy Pier is this great spot on Lake Michigan where a lot of boat tours leave from. It has several restaurants, a farris wheel, putt-putt golf and other fun date-night activities.

At the end of our night, we met up with some college friends that we haven't seen in years. Josh and Anna were in Chicago as well. Josh lived with John David and Anna and I were discipled together! It was great seeing you guys and I am so glad we got to catch up!

John David and I had such a great time away and I would love to go back to Chicago. There are definitely some things we didn't get to do due to lack of time. Namely, go to a Cubs Game. Hopefully, John David's work will take us back there in the next couple of years!

chicago has always been one of my favorite cities. sounds like you guys had a great time...i can't imagine what i'd do without kiddos for 4 days.
I'm so happy to see pics of this trip. I've been waiting and waiting...I was beginning to think you lied about taking your camera and hadn't confessed to me yet. I'm so glad you guys had fun - what a nice and welcomed break. I'm not really sure what sounds more fun - sleeping in and watching the Today show or all of the excursions sans kids. We'll all have to go together next time so you have a day time buddy and so we can all go to a cubs game.
